This color drawing by Hovey-Kelley engineer Douglas Dayton was one of many he made of the mouse; several (now unfortunately lost) were quite whimsical. This drawing, which shows the different parts of an Apple mouse prototype (note that the shape of the mouse and key– later called the button– are different from either Lisa or Macintosh mouse), was sometimes recopied as a black-and-white picture, and given captions explaining its component parts.
